Open your computer’s disk drive and insert the Windows Vista installation disk. Close the drive and access the Start menu. Select Restart and wait for the Windows Vista installation prompt to appear on your screen.

Click the Language to Install drop-down menu and choose your language preference. Choose your preferred option from the Time and Currency Format drop-down and click “Next.”

Click the blue Install Now icon at the center of the window. Type the Windows Vista product key, which is located on the installation disk’s package, in the text box. Click the “automatically activate Windows” check box and click “Next.”

Scroll to the bottom of the end user license agreement and click the I Accept the License Terms box. Click “Next.” Click the Custom (Advanced) icon, which is positioned beneath the Upgrade icon.

Look through the list of disk partitions and click the name of the partition you need to format, such as Disk 0 Partition 1. Click the blue link labeled Drive Options (Advanced), which is in the lower left corner of the window.

Click the link labeled Format, to the left of the New link. Click “Next” and “OK” to format the selected drive partition. Restart the computer if you want only to format the partition and don’t want to reinstall Windows.
