File Sharing Mac OS X Lion and PC Windows 7

If you want to enable file sharing between OS X Lion and Windows 7 computers then there are some step you need to do first. Follow the steps given below to see how you can share files between OS X Lion and Windows 7 computers.



Make sure both Mac and PC are connected with the same network connection.

Steps on Mac OS X Lion

Step-1
Open “System Preferences” from Apple menu

Click on “Sharing” icon from “Internet & Wireless” section

Step-2
Click the Lock icon to unlock if its already Locked, you may need to enter the current logged in user password

Step-3
Now turn the “File Sharing” service On by click on its check-box

Step-4
Under “Shared Folders” section select folder that you want to share. If the folder is not in the list Click the + button to add specific folder in the Shared Folder list

Step-5
Under “Users” section select the current logged in user and change the user Rights to “Read & Write” by clicking on tiny arrows. Also change Rights of “Everyone” to “No Access”

Step-6
Now Click on “Options” button

Check the “Share files and folders using SMB (Windows)” option
Check the logged in user name Check-box, you need to enter its password, click OK, Click the Done button.

Step-7
Note down the IP address as shown on your Mac.

Close the File sharing window on Mac

Steps on Windows 7

Step-8
Now open Run windows in Windows 7 by pressing Ctrl+R buttons from keyboard
Step-9
Type the IP address of your Mac computer that you have noted down in step-7. Type the IP address in the format as show below and hit the OK button

This will prompt for the Username and Password of the Mac computer. Type the Username that you have selected in step-5 and 6.3 and its Password, hit the OK button

You will see all the shared folders of Mac OS X Lion in Windows 7. Now you can Cut, Copy, Paste or Delete any Mac’s shared files or folders from within Window 7.

You can setup an ad hoc network between computers and devices to share internet connection, sharing documents, etc. Ad hoc network can only be wireless, so your computer or device must be wireless capable in other words must have wireless adapter installed.


You can share wireless internet connection from PC without router. If you are using Internet on your Laptop Windows 7 installed and want to share internet connection with other wireless devices then you can setup ad hoc wireless network on Windows 7 to share internet connection with wireless devices like iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, PC, Mac, etc.

Step-1

• Click on “Start” button.
• Type connection or network in search box.
• Click on “Set up a connection or network” search result.

Step-2

• Scroll down a bit, select “Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network” option.
• Click “Next” button.

Step-3

Click “Next” button again.

Step-4

• Enter Network name.
• Select “No authentication (Open)” option from Security type options.
• Check “Save this network” check box and hit “Next” button.

Step-5

Click on “Turn on Internet connection sharing” to start sharing internet connection.

Step-6

You will see this message, Internet connection sharing is enabled, hit the “Close” button.

Now test the internet connection, scan for wireless connection on your any WiFi capable device like iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Macbook, Windows Laptop, etc.
I have tested this shared wireless connection on different wireless devices like iPhone 4, Android Phone, PC and MacBook Pro. See screenshots below.

Secure Wireless ad hoc Internet connection Windows 7

To secure your shared wireless internet connection,

• click on “Start” button.
• Type manage wireless in search box.
• Click on “Manage wireless networks” search result.

You will see all available wireless networks.

Right-Click on the wireless network that you want to secure and select “Properties”.

On the next window click on “Security” tab, select the “Security type” and enter the “Security key”. Click OK button when done. Now anyone who will try to use this wireless internet connection first, he needs to enter security key.

• Menu > Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset

If Android OS is not loading then you can hard reset Galaxy Tab using hardware Keys combination.

• Make sure tab is turned off, Press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds to turn it off.
• Press and hold the “Volume Up” and “Power” buttons at the same time, when logo appears on the screen release the “Power” button and continue press the “Volume” button
• When recovery screen appears use “Volume Up/Down” buttons to navigate and select “wipe data / Factory reset” by pressing the “Home” or “Power” button (Depends on Galaxy Tab model).

If you want to backup iPhone text message on Windows, here is a free method to do that, first we access iPhone SMS database file then view or export iPhone text message from it SMS.db file using SQLite DB browser and then backup iPhone text messages as .csv file / Excel spreadsheet.
Backup iPhone Text messages or Export iPhone SMS

Step-1

First you need to access iPhone files, to browse the iPhone files and folders you have to SSH into iPhone. If you didn’t SSH into your iPhone yet, Follow this guide: how to SSH into iPhone and then come back here on the next step-2.

Step-2

When you successfully connected to your iPhone using WinSCP on Windows,navigate to the following folder in WinSCP : /private/var/mobile/Library/SMS/ this folder is sms.db location which contains all your iPhone Text Messages in SQLite Database format.

Step-3

Just copy and transfer this “sms.db” file on your computer desktop.

SMS.db on your computer desktop.

Step-4

Download SQLite Database Browser and extract it.

Run “SQLite Database Browser” .EXE file from extracted folder to run SQLite DB Browser.

Step-5

Click “Open Database” icon to open the saved “SMS.db” file.

Choose “SMS.db” file that we have saved in step-3.

Step-6

To view your iPhone SMS, click on “Browse Data” tab and select “message” table from table drop down menu as shown below.

Here you can view all iPhone text messages with Address, Date, Text and some other information.

Step-7

Export iPhone text messages, click on “File” menu, select “Export” and select “Table as CSV file” option.

Step-8

Select “message” database table from “Table name” drop down menu and hit Export button.

Step-9

Type file name with .csv extension and hit “Save” button.

After success this will prompt with Export completed message.

Here you have your all iPhone text message in CSV format, in other words iPhone SMS in Excel Spreadsheet. You can view iPhone text messages CSV file in Microsoft Excel, Google Docs, or in other free CSV viewer.

Windows Users :
Press Windows + R keys from keyboard
Enter this path in Open text box C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and hit Enter.
There will be a hosts file, open this file in text editor like NotePad
Remove all entries like gs.apple.com and save the file
Now try to restore firmware.
Mac OS X Users :
Run Terminal from Application > Utilities.
Type the following command sudo nano /etc/hosts, hit Return and Enter Password if prompted.
Find the gs.apple.com entries using down arrow key and comment out the line by entering # at start of the line.
Press Control+O to save the file, press Control+X to exit from editor.
Now Restore you device.
