View and Bookmark Documents in Safari

Keep in mind that Safari only displays the bookmarked content at a later date if the content stays in the same place on your hard drive. This is a good reason to organize your files according to the Mac OS X standard document file structure using your Pictures, Documents, and Movies folders.
You can use Safari as a handy means of organizing and viewing documents. Because so many people use Safari as a Web browser, it is no wonder that they often overlook the fact that Safari is also great for other daily tasks. In fact, Tiger power users often leave Safari running, either minimized or hidden, because of its usefulness.
Got an image on your hard drive that you want to view or print? Safari can display it for you, and you can print directly from the Safari window. Have a movie that you would like to watch? Safari can play it, too.
What makes Safari such a great choice as a document viewer is not just that it can display content. It also has great bookmarking features that you can use to organize your content just as you do Web links. Plus, Safari runs faster and uses far less system resources than a full-featured image-editing application like Photoshop or Corel Painter.

1. Click the Safari icon in the Dock.
2. Click File.
3. Click Open File
4. Click a JPEG, GIF, PICT, or
PNG image to select it.
5. Click Open.

The image appears in a Safari window.

Note: Besides using the File menu, you can also drag an image file from the Finder and drop it in the Safari window or Dock icon to view it.

6. Click Bookmarks.
7.Click Add Bookmark.

Safari prompts you for a name and location for the bookmark.
8.Type a name.

Alternately, you can use the name that Tiger automatically generates.
9. Click Add.

Note: You can select the bookmark later by clicking the Show All Bookmarks button to view the content.

TIPS
Customize It!
If you have countless software manuals in Acrobat PDF format on your hard drive, Safari makes it a snap to keep that important information at your fingertips. Create a bookmark for each of your manuals and organize them in the Bookmarks window. Without buying any additional software, you can have a complete library of documentation manuals at your disposal.

Caution!
Keep in mind that Safari only displays the bookmarked content at a later date if the content stays in the same place on your hard drive. This is a good reason to organize your files according to the Mac OS X standard document file structure using your Pictures, Documents, and Movies folders.
